Skills demand for Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer
Before anything else, it is worth knowing where this occupation sits in the labour market. Demand drives which visa pathways are realistic and how a state is likely to view a nomination.
Jobs and Skills Australia does not record a shortage for this occupation at present. A skilled pathway remains open, but the case will rest on your individual claims rather than on the labour market doing any of the work for you.
Visa pathways for Primary Products Quality Assurance Officer
The occupation lists decide the pathway. Each list maps to a different group of visa subclasses, so the first question is always which list — or lists — this occupation appears on.
This occupation appears on the Core Skills Occupation List, which is the list used for the Skills in Demand visa's Core Skills stream.

The skills assessment is the gate. An assessing authority, independent of the Department, must agree that your qualifications and experience match this occupation before anything else counts.
Fees are set by the authority, not by the Department. The pathways below come from the authority's own published schedule and are reconciled against it. Always confirm the current charge directly with the authority before lodging.
Your employer must lodge a sponsorship application with the Department of Home Affairs and meet legal obligations to employ you lawfully. They must advertise the position to Australian citizens and permanent residents (market testing) and document genuine need for your skills.
Your employer is liable for visa compliance, workplace conditions, and reporting to Home Affairs.
Obtain VETASSESS Skills Assessment – Compile qualifications, work references, and employment documentation. Assessment must be 'suitable' or 'highly suitable'.
Secure Australian Employer Sponsorship – Obtain a job offer from an Australian employer willing to sponsor for subclass 482 or 186 aligned with occupation code 311314.
Employer Lodges Sponsorship Application – Your employer registers as a sponsor (if not already registered) and applies for the visa nomination, including market testing evidence demonstrating genuine need.
Sponsorship Approval You receive approval notification confirming your employer's eligibility.
Lodge Visa Application – Submit your subclass 482 or 186 visa application with VETASSESS assessment, police clearance from all countries where you've lived 12+ months, character evidence, and identity documents.
Medical Examination and Health Clearance – Undertake medical examination with an approved panel doctor, including chest X-ray. Health clearance must be obtained before visa grant.
Visa Grant and Relocation – Upon approval, you receive visa grant notification and can arrange travel to Australia to commence employment with your sponsoring employer.
Practitioner Note
Before you spend anything on an assessment, check that your work history can be evidenced the way the authority asks for it. Most negative outcomes I see are not about capability; they are about references that describe a role in the applicant's words rather than in the authority's.

Do I need a skills assessment for this occupation?
Yes — and it must be for this occupation specifically. A positive assessment in a neighbouring occupation does not transfer, which is why establishing the correct ANZSCO code first is not a clerical detail.
Does meeting the minimum points score mean I will be invited?
No. The minimum allows you to lodge an Expression of Interest. Invitations are issued in rank order from the highest scores down, so the score that actually secures an invitation depends on who else is in the pool for your occupation.
Can a state nominate me for this occupation?
That depends entirely on the state. Each maintains its own list and its own requirements, both of which change regularly, so the answer today may not be the answer next quarter. Work from the nominating body's own page.
